Corporate Citizenship UK receives major award for Project Shoreditch

Deutsche Bank has received a Business in the Community (BITC) National Excellence Award for Project Shoreditch, a neighbourhood renewal initiative in East London.

The award was announced on 7 July during a ceremony at Clarence House attended by HRH The Prince of Wales, who sponsors Business in the Community.

Project Shoreditch is a partnership between East London Business Alliance (ELBA), Deutsche Bank, Linklaters, UBS and the Shoreditch Trust which involves businesses to promote regeneration of the community. Staff members from each of the partner organisations give their time – as opposed to their cash – to participate in a highly varied group of projects: holding foreign language fairs at primary schools, participating in local football matches, offering business mentoring relationships and employment coaching are just a few examples.

Project Shoreditch is unique in that at the time of its founding in 2005, it was the first project of its kind to bring together several businesses to focus on regeneration of a specific geographical area. Initially planned to run until 2008, the programme has been so successful that it has been extended to 2010.

Commenting on the award, Christofer Habig, Deutsche Bank’s Global Head of Brand Communications and Corporate Citizenship, said, “We are extremely pleased that Project Shoreditch has received recognition for its success. Working in unison to harness the talents of our employees has not only advanced the regeneration of the Shoreditch area – it has also helped to bridge the gap between the City and the local community.”
