Why does the Bank give loans to microfinance institutions and not grants

Experts in the field of microfinance agree that MFIs need to become more profitable, sustainable businesses. This requires them to become less dependent on grant funding and more self sufficient financially. This programme enables MFIs to grow in scale and access sustainable sources of commercial capital.

I know a microfinance institution that I think could benefit from this fund. What can I do?

Ask them to send information about their organisation to Kate Cavelle who will share this with colleagues in the Microcredit Development Fund in the US who have been running this initiative for over three years. They will get in touch directly with the MFI if they are able to help.
