Learning is everyone’s business

The next generation of school leavers will be the next generation of Deutsche Bank employees. It currently costs UK business £10 billion each year to train new recruits in basic skills (Ernst and Young). It makes good business sense for the Bank to ensure pupils are given every chance to develop these basic skills at school. Deutsche Bank Citizenship's UK Education programme focuses on enriching the curriculum through creative learning, supporting teachers, education outreach and getting business on the school curriculum. More than 180 Deutsche Bank staff currently volunteer in local schools in and around the City.

We give in many ways. We share leadership and management skills with education professionals, support the development of business on the curriculum and enrich the teaching of basic life and work skills. We also support education outreach. This is critical: in the UK, one in five adults has a literacy level lower than the target level for the average 11-year-old, and 161,000 young people are not in education, training or work.

Our educational programmes fall into four categories:

Business on the curriculum - Enabling young people to learn about the world of business, in particular ebusiness, by interacting with business people. Our flagship initiative is the ebusiness in schools programme which helps prepare the next generation for the changing world of business.

Enriching curriculum learning - Enhancing and enriching educational experiences for teachers and students alike, increasing access to educational opportunities, broadening students’ horizons and raising their aspirations.

Leadership in education - Supporting education by facilitating personal and professional development within the teaching profession. Strong leadership in schools, at both senior and middle levels, is critical to high standards of education.

Educational outreach - Opening the door to educational programmes, support and facilities for some of Britain’s most socially excluded young people.
